Why Not a Reunion of the 40s?

?~  A member of the Class of 1943 wonders: “I understand the numbers are small and putting together a reunion is work. Why not a reunion of the 40s? Those in a particular year would possibly know people a couple of years behind and a couple of years ahead as they were in AHS at the same time for a year or two.

This would include the war years and the period immediately after WW II when things were getting back to normal.”

~ Jerry Schine

A~ On a day when I received news that the DCSS panel recommends shutting down AHS (see article below) it would be wonderful for some of us to make this  happen and honor our early Indians with a Reunion for the 30’s and the 40’s.  What do you think?

DCSS panel recommends shutting down AHS

By Dave Miller

A committee made up of Dougherty County School System employees is sending a recommendation to the school board that Albany High School, which began in the 1800s, no longer serve as a high school, but instead house the offices currently at Walter Judge Academy, the GLRS facility and ESP Center.

DCSS issued a release that said what they term a "realignment" would "better allow students to progress along a track that supports and fosters academic success, improves school climate and culture."

Built in the early 1950s to hold 2,000 students, Albany High’s enrollment has for years been dwarfed by Westover, Monroe, and Dougherty High Schools.

School official believe that projected student levels couldn't support four high schools in Albany.

DCSS says that repurposing AHS will allow the district to consolidate programs and offices into one, centralized facility that will maximize efficiencies to the district, while strengthening both academic and extracurricular programs at the remaining three high schools.

*** Martha sent a really nice article, KAY HIND RETIRES AFTER 50 YEARS which she put together last month and I didn't have room in March.  So I used it this month ... but shame on me - I forgot to put her name ...
I did the same thing to Joann ... she sent a cute "bit" I used for "CLUES" section.  It had to do with Downton Abbey and coloring books!!!  BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT I forgot to add her name.
The bad thing about sending via email ... you can run back and correct something before most see it .... HOWEVER ... when my computer is fixed, I'll take what I sent tonight and transfer to the web program ... probably work to be done to reformat ... but at least, then, those mistakes can be corrected.
Forgive me please.

Class email notices and/or obituaries are first sent to the deceased's class, and if relatives are Indians, to the classes of the spouse, child, or parent(s), as soon as possible. Each is then listed, in the Albany High Times' "News & Clues", and also added the following month to the Albany High Times' "In Memoriam" webpage:http://albanyhightimes.com/in_memoriam.htm

Please send any corrections or additions to albanyhightimes@aol.com

*** CLUES ***

*** Just read this morning, of interest to Downton Abbey fans.  A new coloring book will be available on Amazon, May 2, 2017.  I don't know how many folks admit to coloring, but it is relaxing!

As a teacher I spent many a night watching television and coloring games for my students.  Envelope games as a teaching reinforcement tool were popular on the kindergarten and first grade level.
